This Privacy Policy applies to https://sciengines.com/ (“the Site”) which is run by Sciengines GmbH, a company registered in Germany with company number HRB 9565 KI  (“SciEngines GmbH”) of Am Kiel-Kanal 2, 24106 Kiel. You will also see the Company referred to SciEngines on our Site.

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how SciEngines GmbH collects, uses and discloses personal information in compliance with General Data Protection Regulation Information (GDPR) about you when you visit the Site and when you contact SciEngines GmbH, whether by email, post, fax or telephone using the contact options on the Site. The information you provide to us through the Site will be collected by SciEngines GmbH but may then be shared with other companies in the Sciengines Group, which includes Sciengines GmbH, SciEngines UK and SciEngines ApS (“SciEngines Germany”, “SciEngines United Kingdom”, “SciEngines Denmark”, and together, the “Group”). All references to “SciEngines GmbH”, “we” and “our” in this Policy include the Group, unless distinguished in the text.

What type of information does the Company collect and why?

When you visit our Site, your browser may send a series of technical data (e.g. Cookies). The information that may be collected includes information about your Internet Service Provider, your operating system, browser type, domain name, the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer (or other electronic Internet-enabled device), your access times, the website that referred you to us, the web pages you request and the date and time of those requests. All data in the log files is not directly related to personal information and will never be merged with other personal information. We register your access for reasons of data security in order to ensure the stability and reliability of our systems and to ward off unauthorized attacks. This may also allow us to find out which parts of the Site are popular or need changing. The log data are for internal purposes only and will not be shared with third parties outside the SciEngines Group. Anyways we take efforts to reduce the footprint of logs, e.g. we ask our internet provider to store only limited digits of IP-Adresses 123.456.xxx.xxx, where ever it becomes resonable.

Cookies & Pixels

This website utilises Google AdWords. Google AdWords is a service to place ads in Google search engine results and the Google advertising network. Google AdWords allows an advertiser to pre-define specific keywords with the help of which an ad on Google’s search results only then displayed, when the user utilizes the search engine to retrieve a keyword-relevant search result. In the Google Advertising Network, the ads are distributed on relevant web pages using an automatic algorithm, taking into account the previously defined keywords.  Google AdWords is a product of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy, Mountain View, CA 94043-1351, USA.

This website utilises the Wordfence firewall to secure this website and its content against attacks of third parties. Our policy is to limit data storage in compliance with German law and GDPR. E.g. any “Personal Information” that is not customer-related shall not be stored longer than two weeks in compliance with the law. Other transaction information (for example, TLS handshake information) which may include “Personal Information” may be stored for longer periods due to legal limitations.

How does the Company use “Personal Information” about me?

We may share personal information within the Group as needed for reasonable management, analysis, planning and decision making, including in relation to taking decisions regarding the expansion and promotion of our product and service offering, order or customer request fulfilment and for use by those companies for the other purposes described in this Policy.

Your personal information may also be made available to third parties (within or outside SciEngines GmbH or Group) providing relevant services under contract to SciEngines GmbH or the Group (see below for further details).

Third parties in this context means SciEngines Germany and any other corporate entities within our Group, providers to SciEngines GmbH or Group of responsible management, accounting, legal, logistics, audit, compliance, information technology, marketing and other services. This may also include providers of call centres, data storage and database hosting services, IT hosting and IT maintenance services. These companies may use information about you to perform functions on our behalf.

We may disclose specific personal information upon lawful request by government authorities, law enforcement and regulatory authorities where required or permitted by law and for tax or other purposes. Personal information may also be released to external parties in response to legal process, and when required to comply with applicable laws and regulations, or to enforce our agreements, corporate policies, and terms of use, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our businesses, our employees, agents, customers, and others, as well as to parties to whom you authorise us to release your personal information.

Your personal information may also be made available to third parties or partners where necessary as part of any restructuring of SciEngines GmbH or the Group or sale of the SciEngines GmbH or Group’s business or assets. We will not sell your personal information to any third party other than as part of any such restructuring or business or asset sale.

Will my personal information be transferred abroad?

We have explained above how your personal information may be disclosed outside of the Company and Group. As part of this, including for instance where we engage providers of services, your personal information may be transferred to countries or territories located outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”) or are otherwise subject to the territorial scope of the GDPR. Where this occurs, steps will be taken with a view to protecting your personal information in that instance consistent with applicable data protection law.

What choices do we offer you with regard to direct marketing?

We may wish to provide you with information about new products, services, promotions and offers, which may be of interest to you and may invite you to take part in market research or request feedback on our products and services and the Company’s products and services. This communication may occur by email, telephone, postal service or SMS. We will obtain your consent and advise you of how to opt-out of receiving such communications where we are required to do so in accordance with applicable law, for example by clicking the “unsubscribe” link on any email that we send to you or by emailing gdpr.opt-out@sciengines.com at any time.

Please note that marketing communications are not the same as “information only” communications and so consents are not usually required in order for us to communicate with you about the services you have enquired about or have signed up to obtain through the Site, using contact details you have provided for this purpose.

What rights do you have in respect of your personal information?

You have a number of rights in respect of your personal information under applicable data protection law and GDPR, especially but not limited to the erasure of your data in compliance with GDPR and other legal limitations. Furthermore these include the right to access, delete or obtain copies of your personal information and to have inaccurate information about you corrected. Keeping you informed

We will keep your personal information on record until we have completely dealt with your request, enquiry or application and then for a reasonable period afterwards, in accordance with data protection and other applicable legislation.

The Company may keep your personal information on record for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out above and will then endeavour to delete your details in accordance with data protection and other applicable legislation.

Changes to this Policy

We keep this Policy under regular review. We may change this Policy from time to time by updating this page in order to reflect changes in the law and/or our privacy practices. The date at the top of this Policy will be updated accordingly.

We encourage you to check the date of this Policy when you visit the Site for any updates or changes. We will notify you of any modified versions of this Policy that might materially affect the way we use or disclose your personal information.

By using our Site, submitting your personal information to us, registering an account, registering a customer credit account or interacting with us in other ways, you consent to the use of your personal information as described in this Policy (as amended from time to time).
